Project Twin Streams Glen Eden
'Our Streams, Our Dreams' - Restoring and enjoying the Waikumete, Whakarina and Bishop Streams.

"There is a saying that one person can make a difference, but if we all work together we could make a HUGE difference" Serena, Rhiannon and Carly aged 11 (school students working on Project Twin Streams)

What is Project Twin Streams? Project Twin Streams (PTS) is an exciting programme for Waitakere communities to restore and reclaim the city's streams as the heart of their neighbourhoods. The project aims to improve the wellbeing of the city, through restoring natural systems for managing stormwater by replanting streambanks.

Project Twin Streams Glen Eden Waitakere City Council has contracted EcoMatters, in partnership with Glen Eden Primary School, to deliver PTS in the Glen Eden area. The Glen Eden contract covers the Waikumete sub-catchment and includes the Whakarina, Bishop and Waikumete Streams. PTS Glen Eden stretches from the headwaters in Titirangi, down through Kaurilands, Konini, Glen Eden and Parr's Park.

Want to get involved?
  • Attend a workshop: where you can learn easy methods of weed management, planting, and how to care for the stream in your backyard.
  • Come to a community planting day: plants, spades and lunch provided. Just bring your energy and some good boots.

  • Adopt a stream: get together with friends and neighbours to adopt an area of the stream to care for. We will help you to clean-up and restore the area. You can then watch with pride as your 'patch' becomes a wonderland for plants, birds and an amazing array of stream life.
  • Ask your child about Project Twin Streams: schools in our area are getting involved and kids are discovering how to care for their local environment through learning about streams. You can support your child and local school by attending a school planting day or event.
